Requirements

  • You must be a high school student aged 16 to 18.
  • You need a grade point average of at least 2.7.
  • You must have passed the FAA private pilot written knowledge exam before you apply.
  • You must be a current AOPA member living in the US, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands.
  • You must finish your flight training within 12 months of the award date.

How to apply

  1. Join AOPA, which is free for high school students.
  2. Create an account in the AOPA Foundation application system.
  3. Pass the FAA private pilot written knowledge exam.
  4. Fill out the one general application and upload your transcript and references.
  5. Submit before the round closes, since late applications are not accepted.
